Okay so I've been doing a lot of research the past few years in Appendicitis, what made me delve into this is the passing of the young daughter of a good friend of mine from a complication during the surgery. If that wasn't enough I have friends and relatives who needed this surgery as well, now aside from science starting to realize that all body parts are meant to stay part of the body and the appendix is not "extra " You will find that in the USA alone there is over 250,000 cases of appendicitis are reported annually, representing 1 million patient-days of admission. CRAZY!!! what can be the cause of this, and is there any way we can prevent this, maybe??
There was a rumor I haven't been able to confirm but I've heard it many times and I know a doctor who verified this to be true to their patients, for Americans - the most appendicitis cases occur is the day after thanx giving, And for Jews who fast its most common to happen after fast days such as Yom kipper coming up or Tisha b'av. That's why it is important to spread the word now before Yom kippur to save people from all this preventable suffering
According to the Medical Establishment, appendicitis is caused by fecal matter that clogs up our intestines. Now if that was the whole story then everyone should have had it already because most Americans have pounds of waste that's backing up their system? Furthermore, if that was the whole issue, then when someone has abdominal pain in the LRQ (that's where the appendix is) they should stop eating, and then the inflammation will eventually go down and they will be fine? So why is it that the appendix inflammation gets worse till it bursts?? This is why the doctors rush to give surgery before that happens??
Again what is causing this to happen, and once we know that maybe we can prevent it? Have you ever heard of proper food combinations for digestion? I don't know what your thinking, but when I first heard about it. I was thinking no no no... I'm finally eating healthy and now there are additional restrictions?????, but don't worry about it it's very logical and simple and you'll feel the difference. The most basic rule is to "Eat melon alone or leave melon alone" this is referring to watermelon cantaloupe and honeydew ( pineapple has Bromelain which is an enzyme that helps aid with digestion so it can be eaten with other foods )
Melons digest very quickly, it takes about 15 minates to digest. Cooked starch can take two hours to digest, and animal products can take 4 hours. Not only does the digestion take different lengths of time but different foods also digest and different acidity levels. Therefore mixing these foods cause impared digestion. Eating watermelon is like driving a supercar down your throat. now imagine that's followed by a piece of (Chicken) animal protein that digests very slowly (think of a slow truck). Imagine a highway, a truck driving behind a supercar is no issue at all, but what if the truck is first and the supercar followed going 90 miles an hour "boom" the digestion of both foods gets messed up and you don't end up assimilating the nutrients properly!!! but that is a long-term concern.
For this article, the concern we will address is the short-term one and one that everyone needs to be educated on. When food with quick digestion is in the stomach together with other food with a much longer digestion period. The light food starts to ferment. Now if you've ever fermented anything you all know that fermentation causes off-gassing. This is the cause of bloating and passing gas or burping .....Not a normal occurrence of how digestion is supposed to be, but some may think this is normal from wrong food combinations people experience this all the time.
Now interestingly enough one of the symptoms someone has during an appendicitis aside from a lot of pain, they are unable to pass gas. Putting all of this information together if someone eats cake (slow digestion ) after a fast, followed by watermelon and that's followed by rice and chicken, that's a recipe for an appendicitis disaster. Because fermentation will start in the gut, and the gas produced is trapped by heavy food so can't go up or down in the body. With no place for the gas to go that puts pressure on the intestines to expand, and that's why even if you sit and do nothing the pain will get worse and worse and the pressure will continue to build, because of the off-gassing from the fermentation going on in your intestines.
People eat non-proper food combinations all the time, but the body is very strong and can handle a lot, Specifically after the fast is when appendicitis is the most common because people are under the impression that you must make up for all the food missed in the last 24 hours and stuff themselves, and when people stuff themselves with wrong food combinations it's a recipe for disaster, especially when their body is weak after a fast.
What I suggest .... yes, it's a great idea to break a fast on light food such as melon. If you would like to eat melon after a fast, just do it in a way that won't hurt your body. Eat melon, then wait 15 min then you can go to heavier food and be mindful don't overstuff yourself and you'll be fine
